Painted in the early evening from the rock edge of Promontory Point, Chicago (around 56th Street and Lake Shore Drive). I was set up near the fire pit on the point and a little kid kept wandering away from the fire pit and his family to come over and look over my shoulder. His mother repeatedly yelled at him to go back to the fire which he would do for a time then when she wasn't paying any attention to him he would wander back over and watch me. We never spoke just a half smile and a nod of acknowledgement. I wondered as I painted if he would grow up and express himself though the arts or would the mother squash that urge out of him.
